Four Locks

Mile 108.8 - The canal takes a shortcut here across Prather's Neck and leaves the side of the Potomac for an overland route. Consequently, four locks are required to handle the sudden change in elevation. This is a view of lock 49 with lock 50 in the background.

Four Locks is a big area filled with locks and lockhouses, storage structures, a park and a boat ramp. This is one of the lockhouses, the one closest to the park.
