Great Falls Observation Platform

Mile 14.34 - There's a large platform with a view of the river here.  This platform is built atop the Army Corps of Engineers Washington Aqueduct Intake.  On the right you can see the Great Falls water supply dam, built in 1864.

The Washington Aqueduct starts here and runs underground for 12 miles to Georgetown.  The control gatehouse (no longer used) for the aqueduct is right beside the Great Falls Tavern at lock 20.
