Lock 40

Mile 79.41 - Like lock 39, there's no lockhouse or gate.  It's a deep lock with well preserved stonework..

Another feature of each lock is the wall which separates the two water levels.  Although it is somewhat overgrown, you can see the wall is right where the gate closes.

Because this lock and lock 39 are both so close to feeder dam 4, they both have sturdy looking bypass flumes.
