Locks 41 & 42

These two locks are very close together.  This picture is of lock 42 which is a deep one.

Lock 41 is the inlet lock which marks the return of the towpath.  Barges would exit the canal via the guard lock at Slackwater (mile 85.1) and re-enter here.  The opening has since filled in and is overgrown.

Both locks are missing their gates and lockhouses.  The hinges for the sluice valves are all that remains of lock 41's gates.
