Prize Winning Waste Weir

Mile 156.7 - Of all the weirs along the C & O's 184 miles, this is the King of Waste Weirs.  The picture doesn't do it justice because there's not enough sense of scale in it.  A very tall man could stand in those openings with a foot or two of headroom still left.

The other side of this weir has a large stone tunnel where the flood of water drops from dizzying heights to the river.
