Why Crocodiles Float like Logs
One fine summer afternoon the brown and furry Monkey was climbing through the trees when he saw all of his friends. Giraffe, Gazelle, Elephant, Cheetah and Rhinoceros were drinking at the water hole and eating lunch. Monkey was about to join them when a horrible, green, scaly Crocodile lunged from the water and quickly devoured their food.
"That Crocodile thinks he's so tough, well, I'll show him." thought Monkey.
Crocodile let our a long, satisfied belch and then said, "Yum! That was a good appetizer."
"What a pig! Man, I couldn't have eaten that without it all flying out of my ears!" thought Monkey.
"Okay, now for the meal," said Crocodile waddling toward the water hole. Crocodile then proceeded to flip fish out of the water and onto the bank. as soon as Crocodile flipped a fish out of the water, Monkey stole it. Crocodile flipped, Monkey stole.
After awhile Crocodile turned around, prepared to have a feast. "Where have they gone?! Am I going insane?! yelled Crocodile when he discovered that his well-earned fish had been stolen. "Who could have done such a crime?" wondered Crocodile. He turned around and started fishing again. One by one Crocodile flipped the fish onto the bank and one by one Monkey stole them.
Crocodile turned around. No fish. Now Crocodile was mad. "Who stole my fish?" Crocodile yelled.
Monkey just sat in his tree and silently snickered. Finding that no one would answer Crocodile began fishing again. He flipped a fish onto the bank and quickly turned around.
There was Monkey, caught red-handed stealing Crocodile's fish. "Aha!! I caught you at last!" cried Crocodile.
So with that, Crocodile chased after Monkey. He followed him up trees, across rivers, and through tunnels until Crocodile found himself directly above the tree where Monkey was perched. "Ha. Ha. Ha. I've got you now." whispered Crocodile to himself. He leapt from his tree head first with his jaws gaping wide. Monkey looked up and screamed so loud that his face turned a lighter color before jumping away. To this day Monkey's face is a lighter color.
Crocodile, having leapt with his mouth gaping wide, swallowed the tree in which Monkey had been perched. Regretfully, Crocodile waddled into his water hole. But since Crocodile had eaten a tree, he floated like a log.
To this very day Crocodile uses this accidental gift by disguising himself as a log. Anytime an animal comes near, he eats it, especially if it is a monkey.
